Highlights from the REGULAR COUNCIL MEETING January 9, 2008

The minutes from December 12, 2007 meeting were not approved and will remain as draft until corrections can be made and submitted for approval at the February 13 Regular Council Meeting.

USD 434 Supt. Steve Pegram discussed declining district enrollment. Here is a summary of the Long-Range Planning Update  (courtesy of www.usd434.org)  Please note that this is subject to change.

Tom Wurdeman was invited by the council to speak on behalf of the Planning Commission regarding the proposed Zoning Ordinance .  There was lengthy discussion.  Look for more on this issue in the coming months.

Vic Robbins Water/Sewer update addressed two items:  the video taping of the service line at 206 W. Market and the KDHE response to his recommendation for the next phase of the sewer project.

In New Business, Check Signers were approved, as were the Official Depositories and Newspaper.

Unfinished Business 

          The reps from Westar, Embarq, and KS Gas Service will be here at the February 13th Council Meeting to discuss Franchise fees.  There was discussion as to whether KS Gas could pass the cost directly through to the customer- a good question that will be asked at that time.   

          Job evaluations will be held soon.  Employees had filed out their self evaluations.

          Rate increase for water/sewer:  After discussion, it was decided that there will be a rate increase of 8% for water and sewer.  An ordinance will be presented at the next meeting and if approved at that time, will go in effect once it is published in the Osage County Herald-Chronicle.

          Lindi Calderwood sent the Council a letter in regards to the building at 323 Maple. 

City Officer Reports

Police Chief Harmison discussed the case load from the past month.  There was also discussion on how to cover Officer Dannar's shifts given his recent change to part-time status. 

Bob Call gave his Maintenance Report.  It included an update on the broken snow plow that resulted in less snow being removed than usual following the last snowfall.

Patty Hylton gave the Treasurer report. 

Cheryl Brown indicated that she will be out the week of January 14th.  Jim Koger will cover City Hall during her absence.

The next Regular City Council Meeting will be held on Wednesday, February 13th, 7PM at City Hall.
